Dr. Wes Bellamy is an educator, author, and public leader dedicated to advancing Black leadership, education, and community empowerment.
As Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science at Virginia State University, founder of the Black College Invitational Championship (BCIC), commissioner of the Tonsler League, and Public Policy Chairman for the 100 Black Men of America — this work continues to bridge education, policy, culture, and community impact.

A Time to Yell: More Than a Statue is a powerful documentary examining race, history, and justice in America through the lens of Charlottesville.
The film has received national recognition, including a Webby Award, and continues to spark critical conversations across the country.

The partnership between Dr. Wes Bellamy and recording artist Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins transcends music and politics—it is a movement focused on collective impact. Together, they work at the powerful intersection of hip-hop culture and public policy to amplify the voices of the underserved and create pathways for real community growth.

ANNUAL TURKEY DRIVE
For over 15 years, this work has brought together volunteers, partners, and community members to provide hundreds of families with meals and support during the holiday season.

TONSLER LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP & MENTORSHIP
Through the Tonsler League and its scholarship initiatives, I’ve supported youth development, mentorship, and educational advancement for young people across Charlottesville.

ANNUAL BIKE GIVEAWAY
200 brand-new bicycles, given to children and families at the opening of every Tonsler League season — a reminder that the community sees them, values them, and is invested in their future.

MONUMENTAL: IT WAS NEVER ABOUT A STATUE
"Monumental: It Was Never About A Statue," is a memoir from Dr. Bellamy, former Vice-Mayor and current City Councilor, City of Charlottesville, Virginia about the essence of the White Supremacists attacks in his city, and how a movement to awaken a nation was born.Step into his shoes and read what it felt like to be in the midst of a war for the soul of a community.

Outside of professional leadership work, Dr. Bellamy is an avid long-distance runner and co-founder of Prolyfck Run Creww one of the largest Black-led running groups in Charlottesville, Virginia. Multiple marathons, 60–100 miles per month a practice of discipline and mental clarity sustaining the energy required for service and impact.
